Actor Martin Sheen, who is currently in Dublin to promote Emilio Estevez' film 'The Way', has compared his son Charlie's battle with addiction to cancer.
During an interview with Sky News, 'The West Wing' star spoke about Charlie: "He's an extraordinary man, He's doing well.
"We pray for him. If he had cancer how would you treat him? This disease of addiction is a form of cancer.
"You have to have an equal measure of concern and love."
The former star of 'Two and a Half Men', which has just been cancelled due to his recent rants about the shows producers, is currently undergoing rehab treatment at his home in LA.
When asked how he was supporting his son, the 70-year-old replied: "With prayer. We lift him up and we ask everyone who cares about him to lift him up, and lift up all those who are in the grip of drug and alcohol abuse, because they are looking for transcendence."
Martin was at a screening of his son Estevez' film, which Emilio wrote and directed, and speaking about filming The Way he said: "The working relationship was great, every day was a delight.
"It's not like working with your son, it's like working with your best friend.
"I adored it, he wrote the part for me. Otherwise I wouldn't have even gotten the part."
