'Coronation Street' star Samia Smith has spoken about the trauma her character Maria Connor will face in upcoming episodes.

Viewers will see Maria sexually assaulted by businessman Frank Foster (Andrew Lancel) when she tries to secure a deal for Carla Connor's (Alison King) factory Underworld.
After the attack, Maria struggles with the prospect of going to the police because Foster's business is vital for Underworld.
Smith told All About Soap: "Carla wants her to go straight to the police, but Maria knows that if she does, the factory will be in financial trouble and everyone will lose their jobs.
"Maria doesn't want to be responsible for everyone being out of work. It's a horrible, no-win situation for Maria and she just doesn't know what to do."
