The first photo of Meryl Streep from the upcoming biopic of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher has been released.

Written by Abi Morgan ('Sex Traffic', 'Brick Lane') and directed by Phyllida Lloyd ('Mamma Mia!'), 'The Iron Lady' "concerns power and the price that is paid for power", and is described as "a surprising and intimate portrait".

Commenting on the film, Streep said: "The prospect of exploring the swathe cut through history by this remarkable woman is a daunting and exciting challenge."

Principal photography began in the UK on 31 January.
