'Britain's Got Talent' judge Piers Morgan has made his debut as presenter of CNN's US talk show Tonight, with Oprah Winfrey as his first guest.

In the interview, the American talk show queen spoke candidly about her teenage pregnancy and why she has never married.

He also appeared to impress Winfrey, who told him "You're good" when he asked her how many times she had been "properly in love".

She confessed that she had been in love three times, adding that her heart had been broken "only two times".

She talked frankly about getting pregnant at 14 and then losing the baby, saying that she saw the death as "getting a second chance.

"I had no connection to that baby. I felt nothing but relief because I felt before that baby was born I was going to have to kill myself."

Explaining how she hid the pregnancy from her family, she said if the baby had lived she would most likely have been disowned.

She relayed a conversation she had with her father while she was pregnant where he lectured her, warning her not to bring any shame on the family.

Explaining why she felt that she would have to kill herself, she said: "I had that conversation with him knowing I was pregnant.

"I knew that me getting pregnant was the result of bad choices and sexual abuse."

Towards the end of their exchange, 56-year-old Winfrey began to well up as she talked about Martin Luther King.

At the end of the show, Piers asked her: "How have I done?"
Winfrey answered: "You have been surprising and that's a good thing because who doesn't want to be surprised?"

During the interview she revealed that she had an inner circle of five or six people who she would trust "no matter what"; that she did not consider herself a tough boss and did not shout nor allow people around her to shout and that she was happier now than she had ever been.

Reviews of the show in the US have been positive to the former tabloid newspaper editor's first show since he took over from Larry King in September.
