One of the characters in 'EastEnders' is to propose, but the path to the big day will reportedly not be a smooth one.

The Mirror reports that Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) will propose to Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) after he suffers a heart attack and re-evaluates his life.
But it is reported that Shirley will turn him down the first time he proposes.
A source said: “He has been married several times before so he doesn’t have a great record. There are sure to be a few twists and turns before they make it down the aisle. "Phil will have to work hard if he is going to marry."
The paper says that Glenda Mitchell (Glynis Barber) threatens to break up the couple by revealing her relationship with Phil.
The source added: "'EastEnders' has been hit by complaints, with the cot death and baby swap storyline getting people talking about the soap for the wrong reasons."
