Amanda Holden has spoken for the first time about why she decided to keep her pregnancy a secret from the public for six months.
According to the News of the World, the 'Britain's Got Talent' judge, 39, revealed that she had a miscarriage and lost her unborn baby last year just a fortnight before the live finals of the talent show.
The presenter, who is currently pregnant once again and due to give birth to her second child, a boy, in March, said: "It was without doubt the blackest period of my life.
"I have such a charmed and lovely life and I just never imagined I would miscarry a baby. Never. You never think it might happen to you.
"Something went wrong. I certainly wasn't expecting anything to but sometimes Mother Nature lets you down."
She added that nobody except for her husband, music producer Chris Hughes, and a couple of close friends knew what had happened and that she had to hide her devastation while judging the 'Britain's Got Talent' finals.
She added: "I was an absolute mess. Poor Chris was too but he was amazing. He was there for me and supported me and was totally incredible.
"And in a way 'Britain's Got Talent' helped take my mind off it. I just got on with it and did the show.
"Nobody except me and Chris and a couple of really close girlfriends knew what had happened. There's no way I would have told Piers or Simon - they're a pair of boys. Good Lord no!"
Holden, who has a four-year-old daughter, Lexi, admitted that she managed to keep this pregnancy a secret by disguising her growing bump with layered clothes, strategically placed handbags, and special underwear.
