Owen Wilson has revealed that his brother recently survived a shark attack while surfing in Hawaii.

According to the Toronto Sun, the 'Little Fockers' star recalled how his older sibling Andrew, 46, who co-starred with both Luke and Owen in 'The Royal Tenenbaums', casually informed him of the close encounter during a text message exchange.

In an interview with 'The Tonight Show' host Jay Leno, Wilson said: "Just the other day I was sending a message to Andrew about some guy coming by to take a look at the TV.

"He sent back [a message saying], 'Sounds good, I was bitten by a shark so I won't be there'. And he literally was bitten by a shark on his right foot.

"Can you imagine swimming and then feeling something clamp down and pull? He was okay, he had to get some stitches and everything."

Wilson added that his brother's friends' attempts at preventing further injury had in fact caused more damage.

He added: "Actually the paramedics who came said he was more at danger, [because his friends] had tied a BlackBerry cord around his ankle, from cutting off the circulation on his foot.

"He's so kind of stoic about it."

Asked if it would put him off surfing, Owen joked: "I might think twice about skinny dipping."
