'Strictly Come Dancing' winner Kara Tointon had to go to hospital after winning the BBC series on Saturday night, having sustained an injury during her show dance in the final.

The Sun reports that during Tointon's show dance with professional partner Artem Chigvintsev to Queen's 'Don't Stop Me Now' she tore a ligament in her lower arm while performing a back flip.

Viewers saw the actress clutching her arm during an interview after the dance.

She was given a painkiller and then danced a waltz and American Smooth before she and Chigvintsev were announced as this season's winners.

Tointon said of the injury: "I had tried to do a back flip and I thought, 'Oh my God, oh my God, I can't go on'. It was so painful. I was gutted. As it was the last night I really wanted to enjoy it, but after that it all went a bit wrong. I am just glad I made it all the way to the end."

Later, Tointon woke up at home in pain and couldn't move her arm.

"My dad took me to hospital and they were really great," she said. "They X-rayed it. I have torn a ligament. It is really painful."
