'X Factor' winner Matt Cardle is keeping his promise to play at the wedding of his old boss.

The Press Association reports that Chris Heap is the manager of The Bull Pub in Halstead where Cardle used to work. 27-year-old Cardle used to wait tables and perform with his band - Ali McMillan and Richard Grace - at the pub.

In an interview with Dannii Minogue on MyDaily.co.uk, Cardle said: "I always said before I went on 'The X Factor' with gigs we had booked up, 'Mate, if I'm still available, of course I will do it, and I won't charge any more'. The booking is still standing."

Cardle signed a £1million record deal and has said he plans to pay off some debts including a big bar tab. He said "I will pay that off. I promise, I pinkie promise!"

The Colchester-born painter and decorator triumphed over Liverpudlian single mother Rebecca Ferguson and performed to 20 million TV viewers last weekend.

Next up for Cardle is The X Factor tour which starts in Birmingham on February 19.
