Simon Cowell has called Susan Boyle his "superwoman" after her chart success has now surpassed that of Madonna, Elton John and Elvis Presley
According to the Daily Mail the 49-year-old Scottish singer made history yesterday by becoming the first solo artist simultaneously to hold the US and UK number one album spots twice in less than 12 months.
The only other acts to achieve the same feat were The Monkees in 1967 and The Beatles in 1969.
Boyle secured her second transatlantic double yesterday with her latest album, 'The Gift', which went to the top spot in the US in its first week and topped UK charts on Sunday.
Speaking about her success, she said: "I’ve never felt happier in all my life. This is an amazing result and one I never expected."
Upon hearing the news Simon Cowell said that the former Britain’s Got Talent contestant is "my superwoman".
He added: "She has once again defied the odds."
The former church volunteer has remained part of the roster of artists at his record label Syco.
Boyle, who lives alone with her cat Pebbles in Blackburn, West Lothian, shot to fame on Cowell’s ITV series in April last year.
She has reportedly amassed a fortune of over €9 million and record company sources believe she is likely to double this in the coming year, yet she revealed to Piers Morgan that she only allows herself a €590 (£500)-a-week allowance.
