'EastEnders' actress June Brown, who plays Dot Branning, is to take part in the 'Strictly Come Dancing' Christmas special.
The Press Association says that the 83-year-old, who will be partnered by Vincent Simone, is the oldest contestant in 'Strictly Come Dancing' history.
She said: "I'm terrified and apprehensive about what I've let myself in for, I must be barmy and I'm not sure what's come over me...
"I just hope I can remember the steps to the routines. I'm looking forward to working with the professional dancers and the other contestants."
Also taking part in the show will be TV presenter Fern Britton (partner: Matthew Cutler), actor John Barrowman (partner: Kristina Rihanoff), comic Ronni Ancona (partner: Anton du Beke) and Britain's Business Secretary Vince Cable (partner: Erin Boag).
The BBC's Head of Entertainment and Events, Katie Taylor, said: "Building on the success of the current series of 'Strictly' - that has taken us literally to new heights - I am very excited that, this year, five fresh celebrities are prepared to don their dancing shoes, show us the cut of their cha-cha-chas and delight BBC1 viewers for Christmas."
