Nadine Coyle has reportedly claimed that her family are lucky to be alive after a gas leak at their home in California.

In an interview with The Sun Coyle said that carbon monoxide was leaking from a damaged central heating boiler for four months before it was discovered.

The singer said that her fiancé Jason Bell, parents Niall and Lillian, her two sisters Charmaine and Rachael and herself were apparently left feeling "as sick as dogs".

She added: "Everyone could have died. We're lucky still to be here.

"My mouth erupted in blisters. I couldn't sleep or eat or think straight. Everyone got really drowsy and we kept having to go to sleep."

"We all felt like we had really bad flu. My older sister got so ill we thought she was dying. It was the worst time of my life, being ill while looking at everyone I cared about getting sick as well."

The leak was eventually discovered by a gas worker called in by the Girls Aloud star's mother: "It turned out the boiler was cracked all the way up.

"Everyone was shocked when we found out because it's so serious."
