Controversial Katie Waissel clung on to her X Factor dream tonight after she found herself once again in the bottom two in an agonising results show which saw Aiden Grimshaw given the boot.
The singer, who has already survived several sing-offs in the competition, was yesterday told this could be her final week, and as judges took the competition to deadlock this evening it seemed her luck had run out.
But the 24-year-old gasped and clutched her head in her hands as host Dermot O'Leary announced the result of the public vote, putting an end to Aiden's X Factor ambitions.
"That's a big shock," he added, apparently echoing Katie's own sentiments.
"I'm really grateful that people kept me in," she said.
"I'm surprised I've been in the bottom two a lot now, then there were people out there who see me for who I am, and I want to thank them."
Acknowledging his defeat, Aiden added: "You win some, you lose some."
First to go through to next week's live show was Cher Lloyd, who wowed the audience with her rendition of ‘Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word’.
Next up was painter and decorator Matt Cardle, who once again stole the show this weekend with a stunning rendition of ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’.
Mary Byrne and Brazilian Wagner also made it through, both looking surprised to have survived the public vote after shaky performances last night.
Tonight's results show was described as a "boyband bonanza" by host Dermot O'Leary, with performances from JLS, Westlife and Take That who took to the stage together for the first time in 15 years.
After reuniting with former band member Robbie Williams, they treated viewers to a performance of new single The Flood which entered the charts at number two tonight.
Robbie told the crowd it felt "absolutely magical, fantastic" to be singing together again.
