Despite being told by one of the judges that she had been dragged around the stage "like an appliance", former British politician Ann Widdecombe and her professional dance partner Anton Du Beke are through to the next round of 'Strictly Come Dancing'.

The couple received the lowest score of the weekend's dancing for their Paso Doble, but it was former 'Coronation Street' star Tina O'Brien and professional partner Jared Murillo who were eliminated when judges' points and viewers' votes for their Argentine tango were combined.

Widdecombe and Du Beke's performance to The Troggs' 'Wild Thing' received a standing ovation from the audience, and shocked looks from the judges.

Alesha Dixon said: "You walked around without much conviction and Anton was dragging you around like an appliance. It's like you were a Hoover or something, but it was very entertaining."

Head judge Len Goodman said: "It's a bit like going up the motorway and there's been an accident, you don't really want to watch, but you can't help yourself."

Bruno Tonioli added: "I don't think I'll ever recover from that ending", while Craig Revel Horwood just said: "OMG."

Widdecombe said after the performance: "Do you know that's the only dance where I've got every step right and the miseries didn't even mention it."

After her elimination actress O'Brien said: "I've had the best time ever, I'm really sorry to Jared, I really wanted to go further in the competition for him. Dancing is now something I want to do for the rest of my life."
