'Desperate Housewives' star Eva Longoria-Parker has said that being "selfish" helped her to win the role of Gaby on the show.

Speaking to Tatler, the actress said that the show's creator Marc Cherry was impressed with her selfish streak.

She said of her audition: "Marc Cherry asked me, 'What did you think of the script?' So I said, 'You know, I didn't read the script, I just read my parts and I think she's fantastic'."

"He said he knew I was Gaby at that moment because that was the most selfish thing to say. That I only read my part. He goes, 'Yep, there's our Gaby'."

'Desperate Housewives' returns to RTÉ Two on Tuesday 12 October at 9.55pm.
