'Coronation Street's Gary Windass will be involved in a poignant storyline marking his return from Afghanistan.

According to The People, Gary, played by Mikey North, will be forced to return home when his friend Quinny is killed in the line of duty.
Gary will reportedly face the task of breaking the news to Quinny's parents after the pair made a pact to each other before leaving for Afghanistan.
Gary will reportedly confide in his mother Anna, saying: "Quinny saved my life. People are saying I was the hero for surviving, but if it hadn't been for Quinny I wouldn't be here. He was the real hero."
A source said: "This will be harrowing stuff. The realities of war in Afghanistan will be vividly brought home to the viewers."
"We hope our portrayal of the war and its consequences will be realistic and sensitive at the same time."
