A relatively quiet period in the gaming industry will come to an end with the launch of Playstation Move, an exciting development of the Playstation 3.
Move will offer gamers a new experience with the Sony console. As stated in previous blogs it is a lot more responsive that than the Nintendo Wii and it is a slightly different experience.
There are several titles available for the launch. Some are very basic and really only offer the experience of motion gaming on PS3, but in time there will be more and more major releases that support Move.
Heavy Rain is being re-released and available to download for Playstation Move and the early impressions are quite good.
If you already own the game there probably won’t be much motivation to fork out cash (though it will be reasonably priced) to play it again using a different controller, but it is a start.
It takes a while to get used to playing Heavy Rain using Move. You actually have to "knock" on a door, work hard when involved in a confrontation and use the controller to make your choices so it is something a bit different.
It will definitely be more exciting when it is a new title as there is no real thrill in playing the same story again. It is fair to say 'The Fight' solved a lot of problems I was having on a particular week when I played a few rounds earlier this month. Armed with two motion controllers I conspired to try to beat my opponent in a gritty and brutal underworld fight.
The Move controllers read your arm length and you then throw punches, weave and try to get in some low blows in a quest for victory. It takes a lot more than just a jab or two, anything less than total commitment will end up in defeat so you might have to picture a sworn enemy and take out your frustration in this healthy and much more legal manner.
It was actually a big stress relief and I’m looking forward to its release because of that!
The likes of EyePet and Start the Party are the typical launch party games you see but they are definitely worth a try, even if you are sick to death of the genre, which I confess I am. Gran Turismo 5 and Killzone 3 are really more my thing and they should be really special, especially with GT5 offering a 3D mode.
Playstation Move launches in just over two weeks times, it will be interesting to see how it progresses in the coming months.
Sony Computer Entertainment Senior Vice President Ray Maguire told www.eurogamer.net this week that they expect it to take time for Move to shape up in the market. He said: "Move is a natural extension in the same way as we brought EyeToy to PS2.
"Exactly as with EyeToy in the PS2 days, it's a product that needs to be sampled. You need to get your hands on it. You need to understand it. You need to try it.
"Am I expecting a massive day one? Not particularly. We didn't with EyeToy, either. It went on to be massively successful. As people saw the value when they tried it they told their friends. Their friends bought it. They told their friends. Word of mouth grew the marketplace. That's what I expect from Move as well."
We shall see.
