One of the characters in 'Desperate Housewives' is to receive a visit from their mother in the new series.

TVGuide.com exclusively reports that 79-year-old actress Lois Smith has been cast as Allison Scavo, mother of Tom (Doug Savant) and mother-in-law of Lynette (Felicity Huffman).
She will first appear in the fifth episode of the new series.
Commenting on the character of Allison, the show's creator, Marc Cherry, said she is "a very traditional homemaker whose ideas of what women should be to their husbands really smacks right against Lynette's more modern views of womanhood".
