Irish costume designer Joan Bergin, along with wardrobe supervisor Susan O’Connor Cave, won an Emmy for their work on The Tudors at the Creative Arts Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles last night.
The Tudors, which is filmed in Ardmore Studios, stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers, James Frain and Henry Cavill. Filming of the final season of the series has been completed.
Bergin has previously won an Emmy for Outstanding Costumes for a Series in 2008, with O’Connor Cave, and in 2007 with costume supervisors Ger Scully and Jessica O’Leary. She has also won two Irish Film and Television Awards for her work on the series.
Production designer Tom Conroy won an Emmy for Outstanding Art Direction for a Single-Camera series for 'The Tudors' at the ceremony.
‘Golden Girls’ actress Betty White won the fifth Emmy of her career for hosting an episode of ‘Saturday Night Live,’ while fellow screen veteran Ann-Margret got a standing ovation after receiving her first statuette.
White, 88, won for guest actress in a comedy series.
The biggest winner overall was the costly World War Two miniseries ‘The Pacific,’ with seven awards.
Comedy ‘Modern Family’ and ‘Saturday Night Live’ each won three. ‘Modern Family,’ with 14 nominations overall, is up for eight awards at the main Primetime Emmys on 29 August, although five of its stars are competing in two categories.
‘Glee’ won two awards, including one for guest star Neil Patrick Harris.
‘30 Rock,’ last year's best comedy winner, went home empty-handed after being in contention for eight awards. It has seven chances at the next presentation.
Ann-Margret won the Emmy for guest actor in a drama, after five previous nominations, for her role on ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.’
John Lithgow won his fifth career Emmy, for playing a serial killer in ‘Dexter.’
