Broadcaster Ryan Tubridy has said that he wants to get his new RTÉ 2fm show right "because of the legacy" of Gerry Ryan.

Speaking to RTÉ TEN, he said of taking over a new show: "It is a bit sadder this time obviously, because of Gerry."

When asked how he was feeling about getting started on the show, he said: "Very nervous, more than excited... I think it's because of the legacy of Gerry. It's because of the enormity of it."

"I want to get it right, I want to get it right for him and his family, and myself and my team... so in that sense I'm very nervous, yes."

Describing the new radio programme, he said: "I like what's happening."

"I like the buzz about the place, the sense that this is going to be quite big, and I think it's going to be funny... There's a boldness in the air and I like that."
