'Strictly Come Dancing' star Alesha Dixon has said that she found the criticisms that she received during her first year on the panel "quite hard" to take.

According to The People, she said: "People haven't expected me to return but I am not going to let elderly women who were bitchy and critical of me stop me from doing a job I love."

"Mean things were written too and that was quite hard. It angered me. You just don't degrade women like that."

"To say that women who are younger than 35 don't have a brain is very patronising."
