Actor Charlie Sheen has avoided a jail sentence after pleading guilty to a misdemeanour assault charge.
The 44-year-old 'Two and A Half Men' star was sentenced yesterday for charges resulting from an incident last Christmas with wife Brook Mueller in Aspen, Colorado. US Weekly reports that Sheen received a 30-day sentence from the judge to be "administered and executed" at Promises rehab centre in Malibu.
Several more serious charges against Sheen were dropped as part of the plea deal. He must also complete 36 hours of domestic violence counselling.
People reports that following sentencing the actor released a statement saying "I'm very grateful to the court and to the people of Pitkin County. I look forward to complying with the court's decision, getting on with my life and putting this behind me."
Following the incident Sheen’s wife entered a "wellness programme" before checking into rehab and Sheen has also sought treatment at a rehab facility.
