Olympic rowing champion and TV presenter James Cracknell is reported to have suffered some brain damage in a bike accident in the US last week.
The Daily Telegraph reports that Cracknell is semi-conscious and receiving treatment in a neuro-trauma ward after being knocked off his bike while filming in Arizona for a programme for the Discovery Channel.
His wife, Beverly Turner, told the newspaper that her husband could need up to six months to recover from his injuries.
She said "I'd spent years worrying that James would plunge down a crevasse in some remote wilderness, but it was a road traffic accident in the US that has left him with a fractured skull and damage to his brain."
She doctors expect Cracknell to make a full recovery despite the accident causing bleeding and selling to his brain adding "Only those closest to him may be able to tell a subtle difference."
