'Harry Potter' star Daniel Radcliffe is to play the lead role in a new adaptation of Erich Maria Remarque's classic anti-war book 'All Quiet on the Western Front'.

Speaking to Variety, the film's producer, Ian Stokell, said: "Daniel brings a vulnerability and innocence to Paul [the main character].

"When we realised how much he loved the script we were really excited because we know he can tap into the delicate balance between intensity and believability that is critical for this demanding role."

'All Quiet on the Western Front' was also an Oscar-winning film in 1930 and was adapted for television in 1979.
