A German teenager emerged as the emphatic winner of this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo tonight.

Lena, a 19-year-old diva, triumphed in the Norwegian capital with her Lily Allen-esque ballad ‘Satellite’

It is only the second time the Germans have won the competition. Their only other victory came in 1982.

The teenager was an unknown amateur when she won Germany's qualifiers for Eurovision.

It was a disappointing night for the Irish contingent.

Niamh Kavanagh, who won the Eurovision Song Contest in Millstreet in 1993, was the tenth performer to appear on tonight's show, and sang 'It's for You'.

But despite giving a strong performance, the Dubliner scored just 25 points on her way to finishing third from bottom of the 25 contestants.

The UK fared even worse, however, with Josh Dubovie earning a mere ten points for his performance of 'That Sounds Good To Me' to finish in last place.
