'Emmerdale' star James Thornton has said fans of the soap are set for exciting times in the coming months.

Warning: spoiler alert!

Viewers of the ITV show have seen Holly Barton (Sophie Powles), the daughter of Thornton's character John, expelled from college for dealing drugs.

In an interview with Channel Five's Holy Soap website, Thornton said of the drugs storyline: "I think it's brilliant. It's unusual for 'Emmerdale' to be so up to the minute. It's quite a strong storyline for Emmerdale at 7 o'clock on ITV to deal with cocaine and Class A drugs."

He continued: "It will be really interesting when you look at what's going to happen up over the coming months. There are some fascinating twists and turns to come. It's great to get that sort of thing on ITV at 7 o'clock and to get a younger audience seeing it because it's current."

When asked how the storyline would end, Thornton replied: "The storyline just gets bigger and bigger, it draws in other people in the village and turns out to be really huge."
