Popular US television actor Robert Culp died yesterday at the age of 79.

The Association Press reports that the 1960s star died after collapsing outside of his home in Hollywood. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

During his 40-year acting career Culp co-starred with Bill Cosby on the NBC series 'I Spy' and was seen on Irish TV screens in 'The Greatest American Hero' as well as 'Columbo'. He also starred in movies such as 'The Pelican Brief' and 'Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice'.

Most recently he was seen on television in 'Everybody Love Raymond' in the recurring role of Warren Whelan – Debra Barone’s father.

Culp was married five times and had three sons and two daughters.
