Avatar - Extra scenes could be included

James Cameron and film studio Fox are reported to be in discussions about re-releasing 'Avatar', primarily in 3D, with unseen footage.

The Hollywood Reporter says the re-release would feature additional scenes that had been left out so that 'Avatar' could make its original December release date.

The trade daily says: "The impetus for a re-release is the feeling that, even though ‘Avatar’ is the highest-grossing movie of all time, producers could have raked in even more money had they been able to hold on to the digital and Imax 3D screens that were lost when Disney opened ‘Alice in Wonderland’ in 3D..."

It is reported that Imax CEO Richard Gelfond said the director had about 40 minutes of extra footage that was not seen in cinemas.

Cameron has said he has 10-12 minutes of additional scenes that could be turned around quickly for a director's cut or the DVD.

The Hollywood Reporter says that one scene involves Jake Sully's avatar and the other involves a native festival.
