As Cheryl Cole’s family rallied round the singer yesterday, her husband Ashely is reportedly blaming Cheryl’s career for their marriage break up.
The Daily Mirror reports that Cole, 29, has allegedly claimed she spent so much time working he got “lonely”.
Cheryl is said to have wept after returning from LA to the couple’s empty house on Tuesday – to find a handwritten note from Cole trying to justify his actions.
A source told the paper: "Cheryl is hurt and confused. One minute Ashley is grovelling and apologising for his betrayals and the next he is blaming her career for the split.
"Cheryl has been told Ashley strayed because he felt so alone.
While she was off working on 'X Factor' or with Girls Aloud, he was either at home alone – or in a hotel room having to entertain himself during away trips with Chelsea.
"But he also apologised profusely and begged for forgiveness and left her a belated Valentine’s day present which included some jewellery."
Yesterday it was claimed Cole has also blamed Cheryl’s mum Joan, 59, for causing the couple to drift apart. He said the trouble began when Joan moved in with them two years ago following claims that he had cheated.
Meanwhile, Cheryl’s dad Anthony Leighton said he had prayed the stories of Cole’s infidelities were not true.
The Mirror quotes him as saying: "We hoped the relationship would survive and they would weather the storm as before."
Cheryl may speak publicly about the split on Jonathan Ross’s BBC chat show on March 12.
It is thought Cheryl was booked for the show before the scandal broke.
