'Emmerdale' star James Thornton is recovering after being hit by a car in London last week.
The Daily Star reports that the 34-year-old, who plays John Barton in the soap, was walking with his wife, 'Gavin & Stacey' star Joanna Page, when the incident occurred.
Thornton was admitted to hospital and treated for injuries to his legs and knees and shock.
An unnamed 'Emmerdale' source told the paper: "We were all told of the news on Thursday afternoon after James rang in to explain that he'd been run over.
"Everyone was in complete shock. He was having a few days off in London with Jo and they'd been out for dinner when he was hit by the car. Joanna was in a right state and James was in absolute agony.
"He knows he was lucky. We have no idea when he’s going to be back."
The Daily Star reports that writers on the soap have had to rewrite several scenes involving Thornton.
