'Dancing on Ice' judge Jason Gardiner has apologised for controversial comments he made to celebrity contestant Sharron Davies.
The Sun reports that the Australian has been forced to backtrack on the remarks in which he likened the former swimmer to "faecal matter".
He said "On last night's 'Dancing On Ice' I was criticising the performance of Sharron Davies and made some comments which may have caused offence to her and the viewers. For this I'm sorry and would like to apologise."
British campaign group Mediawatch's director Vivienne Pattinson said: "His comments were totally unnecessary and offensive and not what the viewer wants to see."
Chef Gordon Ramsay's wife Tana, who was voted off the show on Sunday, said the comments were too personal.
Speaking on 'This Moning', she said: "Some things he says are very personal and there's no need for that."
She said: "He says these things to help himself, not anybody else.
When you're putting yourself on the line it's hard to take and can shatter your confidence. You don't need to be brought down like that when it's not constructive."
