The Pogues singer Shane MacGowan has said that he can stay awake for around a week at a time.

The Press Association reports that in an interview in the new edition of Mojo magazine, the singer was asked if he found songwriting easier at certain times, such as before going to bed.

"Maybe if I went to bed," MacGowan replied.

He continued: "I generally stay awake for about a week. I get catnaps, and then when I'm really exhausted I crash out for a good long while and carry on, you know what I mean?"

On his attitude to life, MacGowan said: "What I'm interested in doing is having a great time, and the audience having a great time, and living as long as I possibly can."
