"Certainly, nothing would stop me coming home for Christmas, if I can. But I've worked a lot in theatre and in theatre in New York we work Christmas Day a lot of the time as well.
"And so that precluded me from coming home a lot of Christmases, because I would be doing a show. When I get the chance to come home now at Christmas I leap to it."
When asked what he missed most about Ireland when he is living in the US, he said: "Sitting in front of a turf fire. You can't beat it, can you?"
'FlashForward' begins on RTÉ Two on Monday, 4 January at 9pm.
