Corrie panto back after 34 years

Fans can expect some long faces

'Coronation Street' fans are in for a treat on Christmas Eve, when the residents of Weatherfield stage their Christmas panto.

Warning: spoiler alert!

The Mirror reports that the soap last featured the characters in a panto in 1974, when Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) played Cinderella.

This year Betty (Betty Driver) will reprise her role as the Fairy Godmother with Jesse (John Thomson) and Sean (Anthony Cotton) playing the Ugly Sisters and Graeme (Craig Gazey) cast as Buttons.

The role of 'Cinderella', however, causes problems.

Fans can expect trouble between Becky (Kate Kelly) and Claire (Julia Haworth) after Claire gets the starring role and has to kiss Becky's husband Steve (Simon Gregson), who is playing Prince Charming.

Speaking about playing the Fairy Godmother in the panto, 89-year-old actress Driver said: "It took me back to when we did 'Cinderella' in 1975.

"Mind you, I think my dress was a lot nicer this time around. It was fabulous with a gold bodice, a tiara and a magic wand.

"Last time I looked a swine. The dress was all white and very virginal.

"This time I got a throne to sit on too and they threw sparkle all over me - I was finding it in all sorts of peculiar places afterwards."
