Cricketer Phil Tufnell was voted out of Strictly Come Dancing after a dance-off with EastEnders’ actor Ricky Groves.
The night start on a comedic note with Ronnie Corbett stepping into Bruce Forsyth's shoes after flu floored the veteran host.
The BBC said co-host Tess Daly would front the show alone but had promised viewers a ‘surprise’.
All was revealed when the show started and Corbett trotted down the stairs, nearly tripping in his excitement.
Forsyth, who is recovering at his home in Virginia Water, Surrey, has never missed an episode of the popular ballroom dancing contest which is now in its seventh series.
Corbett said he would stay in touch with Forsyth throughout the show and after the first contestant, cricketer Phil Tufnell, performed, Corbett joked that Forsyth had said his lifts should be ‘higher, higher’ - one of his Play Your Cards Right catchphrases.
Claudia Winkleman who presents Strictly's spin-off show 'It Takes Two', also joined tonight's main programme, taking Daly's usual role interviewing the dancers backstage.
Athlete Jade Johnson was left in tears after a knee injury forced her to pull out of tonight's show.
Johnson's knee 'popped' when she tried to get up after dancing during the dress rehearsal and doctors advised her to rest and get treatment.
Actress Laila Rouass was also left in tears as she failed to complete her rumba due to a painful ankle injury.
The judges said they could only mark on her on the first part of the routine and she received a disappointing total of 22.
Rouass ended up bottom of the judge's scoreboard despite being one of their favourites in previous weeks.
She was left waiting until the last minute to hear if viewers' votes had saved her from having to test her ankle again in the dance-off.
The former Footballers' Wives star looked surprised and relieved when her name was finally called, the last to go through to next week's show.
Tufnell lost out in a close judges' vote which saw head judge Len Goodman making the final decision.
‘I have enjoyed myself,’ Tufnell said.
