Elton John is ‘absolutely fine’ despite cancelling more shows on doctor's orders, his spokesman said today.

The 62-year-old singer is suffering from a serious case of E.coli bacterial infection and influenza, a statement on his official website said.

But Sir Elton's spokesman said today: ‘He has flu and is absolutely fine.’

Doctors have advised him to postpone three concerts which he was due to perform with Billy Joel in the US over the next couple of weeks.

The statement on the website read: ‘The Elton John/Billy Joel Face 2 Face concerts originally scheduled for Wednesday 4 November, Saturday 7 November and Tuesday 10 November have been postponed.

‘Promoter Live Nation, The KeyArena and The Rose Garden were informed by management that Elton has been advised by his doctor to postpone these performances due to a serious case of E.coli bacterial infection and influenza."

The veteran performer is being treated at the King Edward VII Hospital in central London, according to the Mail on Sunday.

It reported that Sir Elton was taken to the hospital, which has treated members of the Royal Family, on Friday after his condition worsened.

The musician's partner David Furnish spent much of yesterday at the hospital and, as he left, said: "He's OK, he's fine."

Sir Elton has postponed gigs in Sheffield, Newcastle, London, Liverpool and Dublin since 23 October when he contracted flu.

The concerts, part of his Red Piano tour, are due to be rescheduled.
