The new Irish film 'The Eclipse' has won the Melies D’Argent Award for Best European Motion Picture at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival in Spain.
Directed by Conor McPherson and co-written by McPherson and Billy Roche, 'The Eclipse' is described as a supernatural love story which follows a widower (Ciarán Hinds) who is haunted by nightmarish visions.
Hinds won the Best Actor award at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York earlier this year for his performance in the film.
Commenting on the film's win in Spain, producers Rebecca O'Flanagan and Rob Walpole said: "We are delighted to have received this award. It is exciting to have the film recognised in this way and hopefully it is an indication of how both European and international audiences will respond to the film when it is released next year."
'The Eclipse' was shot in Cobh, Co Cork in September 2008 and was funded by RTÉ, Bord Scannán na hEireann and the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland.
