Superstar Whitney Houston has broken her long silence about her drugs hell and revealed to Oprah Winfrey that at her lowest point she spent 7 months wearing pyjamas.

The singer told how her life spiralled out of control when she got hooked on drugs during her marriage to R&B star Bobby Brown in the 90s.

Houston, whose comeback album 'I Look To You' has shot to No 1 in the US charts, candidly talked about her drugs battle and recalled how her mother made a desperate attempt to get her clean by turning up at her home with the police.

She said: "Now, looking at it, I see the love and passion my mother had for me. She came and said: 'It’s not worth it.'

"She said to Bobby: 'If you move, they’re gonna take you down. Don’t make one move.’ And he stood there like he was scared. And she said: 'Let’s go.'

"She told me: 'I’m not losing you to the world. I’m not losing you to Satan. I want my daughter back. I want to see that light in your eyes.’"

The 47-year-old star is rebuilding her life after a bitter divorce from Bobby two years ago.

After their brutally frank chat, Oprah called Whitney her ‘best ever interview’ and added: "The thing most shocking to me is that Whitney tried to make herself smaller to fit in a marriage so the man could be bigger. How many women have done that? I deeply felt for her."

The singer is set to make her comeback performance on 'The X Factor' next month.
