Celebrities have been lining up to slam Kanye West over his MTV Video Music Awards stage raid.
West, seen swigging from a bottle of Hennessy Cognac prior to the awards, interrupted country singer Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for the Best Female Video award to tell fans a video by Beyoncé Knowles was the "best of this decade".
He said: "Taylor, I'm really happy for you, and I'm gonna let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time!"
Writing on twitter, Pink responded: "Kanye West is the biggest piece of **** on earth. Quote me."
Singer-songwriter Katy Perry insulted West and then tweeted: "It's like you stepped on a kitten".
Musician and former Jennifer Aniston squeeze John Mayer added his voice to the messages of support for Swift, saying: "Big love to my girl @taylorswift13. A class act."
Swift’s bandmates also tweeted their support. Grant Mickelson said: "My boss and friend is the most talented and classy woman I know."
Swift herself revealed that she only began to realise what was happening after West began to speak.
She said: "I was standing on stage and I was really excited because I had just won the award. Then, I was really excited because Kanye West was on stage. Then, I wasn't so excited any more."
But the country singer was reluctant to get into a public battle with West. She said: "I don't know him and I don't want to start anything because I just had a great night tonight."
Along with Swift, Beyoncé emerged as one of the night’s class acts after giving up speech time to Swift when she won an award later in the show.
Swift commented: "I thought that I couldn't love Beyonce more and then tonight happened."
