Emmerdale star Siân Reeves has spoken of how a stage accident almost ended her acting career.
Speaking to the Daily Star, the 44-year-old, who recently joined the soap for a six-month guest stint, said: "Someone had left a trapdoor open backstage. I fell down it on to a steel ladder and punctured my lung and crushed my upper rib cage.
"I might have been paralysed but I was flat on my back for the best part of a year. It was an incredibly scary time."
The actress was left with severe injuries following the incident while rehearsing the play 'Vernon God Little' in London in 2007.
Reeves makes her Dales debut next week when her character Sally Spode arrives and quickly starts causing trouble for her old flame Ashley Thomas (John Middleton).
She added: "Ashley's really shocked and unnerved. He doesn't know where to put himself."
