Michael Jackson has been described as an ‘addict’ by investigators looking into the circumstances surrounding his death on June 25.

According to the Press Association, search warrants used to gain access to the singer's properties reveal that officials are seeking evidence relating to Jackson's use of the powerful anaesthetic propofol.

Los Angeles police and federal Drug Enforcement Administration searched his rented Las Vegas home and the business of his former doctor, Conrad Murray, who is the subject of a manslaughter investigation.

The documents also refer the misdemeanour offence of ‘excessive prescribing’, which is punishable by a fine or imprisonment for up to 180 days.
