Residents living in the vicinity of Croke Park held a protest this morning over what they describe as the intrusion caused by extensive works to host the three U2 concerts.

The residents blocked trucks from leaving the stadium for a number of hours.

The protest began at midnight and continued until the early hours of the morning with around 50 local people taking part.

The residents are angry at Dublin City Council for granting planning permission for 44 hours of non-stop work to dismantle U2’s stage and equipment.

During the protest the residents were issued with letters from promoters MCD warning them that they could be held responsible for any losses incurred.

At around 8am they agreed to temporarily suspend their action.

However, some trucks missed the ferry they were due to take at 7am for the next leg of the tour in Gothenburg.

Croke Park and MCD will not comment on the protests.
