Sony Pictures is nearing a deal for a feature film about Michael Jackson which will use some of the rehearsal footage for the late singer's London concerts.

Variety reports that there is 80 hours of rehearsal footage for the London shows.

The film will feature at least three videos and an alternative version of 'Thriller', all of which were meant to be used during the London performances.

The trade daily says that Sony is expected to pay more than $50m for worldwide rights to AEG Entertainment, the promoter which owns the rehearsal footage.

'High School Musical' director Kenny Ortega, who shot the rehearsal footage, is expected to direct the film.

Sources have said that he has already started assembling the footage so that the film can be released before the end of the year.
