Reece Dinsdale is leaving Coronation Street over fears of becoming typecast, according to reports.
The News of The World says 49-year-old Dinsdale who plays Joe McIntyre in the soap has turned down an offered pay increase and has decided to leave the Street.
The report claims his character will be killed off next year when he takes an accidental overdose of painkillers.
An insider on the soap is quoted as saying "Reece has been a massive hit and top brass thought they could strike a long-term deal. He was offered a massive pay rise but he turned it down. Executives were surprised. They wanted him to [stay] but he's wriggled off the hook."
Dinsdale arrived on the Street last May and his character quickly became romantically involved with Gail Platt (Helen Worth).
