With many of the 'Coronation Street' cast having recently become parents, 26-year-old Samia Smith, who plays Maria Connor is not short of advice.

Speaking to The Mirror, she said: "I went to see Jane Danson (Leanne Battersby) the other day and she was telling me all about her birth. She's just had her second little boy.

"And Ali King (Carla Connor) has told me all about little baby Daisy's arrival.

"So I've got all the horror stories - which is nice isn't it? I've also been watching a lot of birthing videos which have only managed to scare me. But they do tell me it will all be worth it."

Smith and property developer husband of four years Matt are both ecstatic at the prospect of parenthood when their baby arrives in October.

Yet Samia's pregnancy joy is tinged with grief after her dad Joseph Ghadie lost his battle with cancer in April at the age of just 59.

She says: "We did get to tell my dad about the baby before he died. So that was a comfort, knowing that he knew."

Speaking about her baby bump she said: "Up until a couple of days ago you couldn't really tell I was pregnant. I just looked like I'd eaten a huge bowl of pasta!

"But almost overnight it's got really big and you can definitely tell I'm pregnant. It's a real baby bump now.

"I'm really excited. I love coming home and spending time with my husband. Normally I'd pour myself a glass of wine in the evening, but I'm on the non-alcoholic stuff for now."
