Musician Max Drummey has said sorry for comments he made at a gig that his marriage to Peaches Geldof was a "publicity stunt".
Digitalspy reports that during a performance of his band, Chester French, he said Geldof was on his "personal payroll".
In the Daily Mail, Drummey was quoted as saying "It was totally a publicity stunt - 100%. I'm glad we got married. I've garnered so much amazing publicity from awesome people."
The musician has now released a clarifying statement in which he says: "My comments made regarding my marriage were not intended to be taken seriously. I apologise for those comments."
He added: "These statements reflect neither reality nor my opinion. It was wrong to make them. I am sorry."
Geldof recently claimed she didn't regret their marriage, which lasted just six months: "Max and I are really good friends. We were just too young. That's all it was. I still love the idea that we did it. I love the idea I can tell my kids one day about it and I know he does too."
