The winner of the latest season of 'American Idol' was announced last night with just under 100 million votes being cast across America.
People reports that dark horse Kris Allen took the title ahead of hot favourite Adam Lambert.
The musical event was staged at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles and featured the 13 season finalists as well as music stars like Keith Urban and Cyndi Lauper.
Allen was so shocked when he was announced as the winner he said "Adam deserves this."
The pair performed several times during the two-hour show including a medley together and duets with the guest artists.
