The actor who was the voice of Mickey Mouse for the past 32 years has died in California.

Wayne Allwine was 62 and had been ill with diabetes.

He was only the third person to voice the Disney icon, taking over the role from Jimmy Macdonald, who succeeded Walt Disney.

The Disney company said Allwine had devoted his entire professional life to animation and had brought joy, happiness and comfort to many around the world.

He is survived by his wife, Russi Taylor, an actress who is the voice of Minnie Mouse, and five children from previous marriages.
