Redmond O’Neal, the son of Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O’Neal, has been admitted to a court administered drug programme instead of being hit with a jail sentence for heroin possession.
Reuters reports that the 24-year-old was told by the court that the programme, which lasts for at least a year and involves frequent drug testing, counselling and court appearances, would be an "opportunity to change your life".
O’Neal has been arrested for heroin possession, methamphetamines possession and driving under the influence of drugs and was recently arrested for possession of heroin outside a jail while on bail for another offence.
At the same time, his mother was diagnosed with cancer for the second time. If O’Neal successfully completes the programme, he will not face a jail term.
