Bosses at 'Eastenders' are reported to have cut down on the number of scenes featuring actress June Brown who plays Dot Branning in an effort to reduce costs on the soap.
82-year-old Brown told The Sun "I’m not due back until May. It’s to do with the recession. They could afford ten kids and five dogs for the price of me."
The actress, who is nominated for a BAFTA this month, joined the show in 1985. She, like all actors in Eastenders, is paid a basic wage which is then boosted by the number of episodes she appears in.
The newspapers quotes an insider on the show as saying "Using fewer actors per episode is the most effective way of making cuts, but it’s usual for actors to take a break."
Speaking about her nomination the actress said she would not be buying a new dress for the event as it would not look right due to the recession.
